Charles Brackeen
Rhythm X
In the late 1960s, saxophonist and producer Clifford Jordan produced and recorded 4 albums that would later be known as The Dolphy Series, released by Charles Tolliver & Stanley Cowell’s famed Strata-East Records. That includes saxophonist Charles Brackeen’s Rhythm X, a stunning debut album featuring the backing band of another modern giant, Ornette Coleman. With Don Cherry, Charlie Haden and Ed Blackwell, Rhythm X stands as a nod to the birth of free jazz, post-bop and spiritual jazz. The album showcases Brackeen’s unique voice, with his four original compositions leading a free-flowing, dynamic session full of intricate interplay and bold expression.
